Looking to visit Australia next year and on a very small budget; Any Suggestions?

I want to visit most of Australia, however it will most likely be the southern part of AU.

  1. Go backpacking, there are backpacking hostels all over Australia and its pretty cheap. Its mostly the airfair that will be expensive. The Southern part of Aus. gets very cold in winter (June - August) so bring warm clothes or go in summer (which is what I would suggest). Australia is a great place to visit :)
  2. if your budget is too small, immagration might think you are here to work as an illegal immagrant. but that depends on how long you stay there is a motel you can stay at called the formula 1 hotel its around $50-70 a night, its not the classiest motel, but its cheap since you have a tight budget. there is alot of things you can see for free, like the beaches, The Great Ocean Road depends on what you are looking for
  3. Ok south Australia is very cold in winter june to august.. Very good if youd like to go skiing.. Entering into Australia depending on wat visa you have eg 3month holiday visa you should have enough funds in your bank acc to show you can provide for yourself for your duration of the trip.. Hostels are the best place to stay if you want to do it cheap in Oz lowest price is around $20 per night.. Eating out is quiet expensive in oz unless going to Mcdonalds or something were a big mac meal is around $7..
  4. If you're coming on a Work and Holiday visa, you will be expected to have at least AUD$5000 plus either a return air ticket or the funds to buy one. That's so that you have enough to live on until you can find work and to survive on during periods of unemployment. If you're coming on a tourist visa, you will be expected to have more than that, but how much more will depend on how long you'll be staying and how much travelling you intend doing. Immigration will insist that you have enough to live on for the entire time without being tempted to work illegally. Accommodation will be your major expense so staying in dorms in backpacker hostels is the way to go to keep those costs to a minimum. We have a huge network of hostels and they're located in all of the best places with rates from around $23 per night, though some will be more expensive than that. Internal airfares can be very cheap if you shop around and can even be less than the bus fare in many cases. Virgin Blue have an online Happy Hour each day from noon until 1:00pm and you can get some amazing deals on there if you keep looking until something comes up that suits your travel plans. This site has a lot of useful information on all kinds of things including hostels: http://www.bugaustralia.com/essentials/ See also: http://www.rex.com.au/Backpacker/default.aspx http://www.ozexperience.com/ http://www.greyhound.com.au/
  5. Consider the smaller, country areas of Victoria/NSW. They're a lot cheaper than Melbourne etc. and very interesting - they're the real heart of Australia and have lots of history. A bus from Melbourne is not very expensive at all. Backpacking is the way to go, Places like Mildura and Echuca fit both backpacker and touristy- type areas.
  6. You can sleep in the park,we have 100,000 homeless people here, one more wouldn't hurt.
