what are some pros and cons of Australia's geography? I'm most interested in the cons. Obviously since Australia is technically an island, it is naturally defensible as no other country borders it. Also the beaches and Great Barrier Reef bring in tons of tourist dollars which is great for the economy. Those are all pros. But what about the negatives? What could be a downside (either politically, economically, or other) to Australia being so far away from the other major world powers like the US and UK? If you use a source, please post it. All intellectually serious answers are welcome! Thank you!

According to American geography, Australia is...? ... a continent. However, all my life (as neither an American or an Australian), I have learned that Australia only is a country, and is located in the continent of Oceania. The continent of Oceania, is the continent with all these islands, like Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Somolon Islands, Marshall Islands, and more... Anyways, my question is: For Americans, if Australia is a country and also a continent of its own, and they have no continent of Oceania, then in which continent are the countries of New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and all the islands mentioned above? I'm not criticizing or anything, I'm just asking.

Geography - bloomfield lodge (Queensland, Australia)...? I'm struggling with my geography homework as one of the question we have to answer in our essay is "How do you get to Bloomfield Lodge? Why is there no direct road access?" I wrote how you get to Bloomfield Lodge (By plane: Nearest airport is Cairns Airport. They provide transfers from the airport to the lodge. By car: Accessible via a 90 minute scenic drive on the main highway towards Daintree Village.) but I'm not sure why there is no direct access there. I know the answer will be something to do with tourism since that is our focus topic on this piece. ANY HELP???

Is Canada and Australia comparable? Obviously, the physical geography of the two countries is quite different, both are large countries with relatively small population. I'd imagine the 2 countries have the same population density, because while Australia has 20 million people and Canada has 30 million, Canada is significantly larger than Australia, so the population density evens out that way. Also, both Canada and Australia have their populations concentrated in specific areas. Most of Canada's population live in the fertile extreme South of the country, while as you get more North, it gets colder, more barren and generally less hospitibal - all of Canada's major cities are located in the South of the country. Australia's population is concentrated largely around the fertile coast and as you go inland it gets dry, barren and centres of significant population are few in far between. So, do you feel the human geography of Canada and Australia are similar? Also, forgive me if I've made any mistakes, I'm not an expert
When did Geography change? I know this may get me a violation, but when did America become just the USA? I hear people saying "America, Love it or Leave it." and that Mexicans aren't Americans. When did Mexico break off from the Americas? I learned geography, and there are 7 continents, not 8, so when will people from the United States of America teach their children Geography instead of bigotry? Also, why is it that when people mention Illegals, they automatically think of people from the Americas when they can bee from Asia, Europe, Australia, or Africa?

American knowledge of geography? In a recent news program Americans were asked to identify, variously, North Korea, Iran and Iraq on a map of the world. A large percentage of them identified the landmass of Australia as the target nations. Given the recent talk of nuking Iran, we have a clear interest, here in Australia, regarding the quality of Geography teaching in the USA. Do many Americans know where we are and is it possible to avoid an unfortunate mistake??? a
